Lyme Books You Need To Read!

lyme books post

Here are my current top 3 Lyme Book MUST READS:

We recently had the privilege to interview three authors

Mary Beth Pfieffer’s Lyme: The First Epidemic of Climate Change

Mary Beth Pfieffer is one of the leading investigative journalists in the US on Lyme and the author of Lyme: The First Epidemic of Climate Change, looking at how we have contributed to the rising Lyme cases. Pfeiffer explores and critiques modern medicine and how it has underestimated the danger of Lyme.

The book also dives into the emergence of new tick-borne illnesses that make treating chronic Lyme even more complicated as more and more symptoms and co-infections come to light.

I highly recommend this read as a critical look into society’s role in Lyme disease and what we need to do to curb the rising cases.

We also recently interviewed Mary Beth on the Heal Podcast, where she talked about her journey to discovering the Lyme topic and becoming a leading journalist for it. She lets us in on her thoughts about modern medicine’s approach to the Lyme community, parallels between COVID and her book Lyme: The First Epidemic of Climate Change.

Nicole Danielle Bell’s Memoir What Lurks in the Woods

Nicole Danielle Bell is my most recent Heal Podcast guest and the wife of a Lyme warrior who had to quickly go from working at a top engineering firm to a caregiver. Her husband Russ started exhibiting signs of his health declining, such as memory loss and mood swings; however, no medical professional could get him the correct diagnosis. Nicole was unsatisfied with this lack of answers and went out on her own, seeking a solution. Now diagnosed with Lyme disease, the Bell family has begun the long road of recovery. At this point, Nicole decided to chronicle their journey to inspire and comfort others in the lonely and scary journey that can be chronic Lyme.

What Lurks in the Woods is a beautifully written and tragic memoir of the Bell’s journey of searching for the root cause and going through a medical minefield of misdiagnosis and lack of answers. Nicole tells it all, from the highs to the deep lows, as she helps her husband find the road to recovery.

Shelly Ball’s Guide Lyme Disease, Ticks and You

Dr. Shelley Ball is a trained freshwater ecologist and an upcoming guest on the Heal Podcast (so make sure you subscribe, so you don’t miss her fascinating insight!). She is a Lyme warrior who has been reinfected multiple times with various co-infections, but it has not stopped her from continuing her work and writing this modern roadmap to the disease.

Lyme Disease, Ticks and You is an ESSENTIAL read, not only for the community but everyone, as it navigates and provides resources for prevention, treatment, and contacts. Dr. Ball has put together an easy-to-follow guide that breaks down everything from not getting bitten to what to do if you are and treating the complex co-infections that can sometimes occur. My favorite part of her book is the end list of resources which can be the KEY to someone finding a treatment path or the proper diagnosis.
