Have you used essential oils? This past Tuesday, on the Heal Podcast, Susan Adhoot explains the power of essential oils and how certain oils are useful for Lyme bacteria and helps build up your immune system. A John Hopkins study done at their School for Public Health tested 35 different essential oils to see how they acted against the Lyme bacterium. The finding showed 10 of the essential oils had potent activity against the persistent forms of the bacteria. This breakthrough in natural treatment options for chronic Lyme is a significant step forward and opens the door for many Lyme patients who do not want to go down the antibiotic route.
Listed below are a few of the top essential oils shown in the John Hopkins Study to help with the Lyme bacteria and how you can incorporate them into your healing journey.
Garlic Oil
Garlic is a powerful oil in the fight against Lyme disease because of its strong and pungent characteristics – it has been found incredibly useful in preventing tick bites by repelling them. Garlic oil is an excellent fighter against bacteria, but it naturally boosts the immune system creating a dual fronter fight against Lyme bacteria. In the John Hopkins study, garlic bulb oil was one of the essential oils to kill stationary phase Lyme bacteria without the bacteria regrowing in the following weeks.
Oregano Oil
Borrelia is the main bacteria that causes Lyme disease, and oregano’s properties have shown signs it can kill off borrelia in the John Hopkins study. Oregano is also a crucial oil to try because it helps fight off co-infections, which are very common in Lyme patients. Research has shown that oregano is one of the few essential oils to fight drug-resistant bacteria.
Cinnamon Bark Oil
Cinnamon bark oil is not only antimicrobial and fights the Lyme-causing bacteria; its natural sweet scent is a relaxant that can help with anxiety, sleep, and overall relaxation. Cinnamon oil can be consumed when mixed into a liquid like water or applied to the skin through a carrier oil.
This study has been a big step in finding more natural alternatives to persistent Lyme patients’ typical antibiotic course. The lead doctor in the study stated that this opens the door to a larger clinical trial that will lead to more precise discoveries. A small step in the battle against Lyme disease and a massive win for homeopathic and plant-based medicine proponents!
